Take I-40 exit 394. Turn away from Knoxville toward Jefferson City on Asheville Hwy. In about a mile you will see the intersection at John Sevier Hwy. Turn right onto John Sevier and follow the signs. The house is several miles from the interstate but easy to get to. Once you arrive, there is plenty of free parking.

The Ramsey House Plantation is administered by the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (A.P.T.A.), Knoxville Chapter. Chapters for this 501c3 nonprofit organization oversees several historic locations. Among them are the Ramsey House Plantation in Knoxville, Glenstone Mansion in Jefferson City and others.

This historical significance of the Ramsey Plantation House is that it was constructed in 1797 for one of the most prominent families in the area. The house boasts of a period art collection and French architecture.

The Ramsey Family was not just among the first settlers to the area but they played a key role in the development of Knoxville. Colonel Ramsey was a founding trustee of the forerunner to the University of Tennessee. One of his sons wrote a history of the state of Tennessee and another son served as Knoxville's first elected mayor.

Visitors will enjoy touring the house. There is also a picnic area, heirloom garden and gift shop. The house is open for tours year round. The hours are from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Tuesday - Saturday and 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Sunday. Ramsey House is closed on Monday and on holidays.

Admission for the guided tours is $7.00 for each adult. Children aged 6-12 cost $5.00 each. A discount is given for current members of AAA. Members need to be sure to show your AAA membership card when buying the tickets.
