Where and when is the 2009 MLB Draft?

The MLB Draft isn't nearly as well-followed as the NBA and NFL Drafts but it might be just as important as both of them or maybe more.

Teams like the Yankees and Red Sox can stay near the top of the MLB with their over-inflated payrolls but for most other MLB teams, the only way they get better is by having a strong farm system.

Teams that put good money in and/or have good scouts for the MLB Draft will be able to pull tons of good prospects from parts unknown in the later rounds of the draft giving them ammo for trades or replacements to bring up whens tar baseball players get older.

The importantance of the MLB Draft can not be understated despite its anonymity. But more fans are starting to follow the MLB Draft than ever before.

Where and When is the 2009 MLB Draft?

The 2009 MLB Draft will be held from June 9th through June 11th at the MLB Studios in New York City.

The Washington Nationals will have the top pick in the 2009 MLB Draft which allows teams to pick either college or high school prospects as long as they have made themselves available to draft. The Nationals need just about everything in this year's draft and picking the right guy is paramount.

Salary slots also factor heavily into the MLB Draft as well. The Detroit Tigers are a good example of this as they picked Rick Porcello at #27 overall mainly because he slipped due to high salary demands. The Yankees would have been the other first round MLB team to take him because they were one of the few who could afford his salary demands after the draft.

The Tigers got a steal picking Porcello as he is now already an MLB pitcher despite being drafted in 2007 and is one of the top young pitchers in the game, doing surprisingly well.

The 2009 MLB Draft should have a big role in determining the fates of many teams yet again.
