Our bookclub has met for over two years now. There is nothing like the excitement in anticipation of getting together after a great read! We have also suffered through many a poor choice! There have been books we all loved (Kiterunner, before it received too much hype!) but usually the group is divided. This list of books encompasses both of these scenarios, but whether you love them or not, I promise you they will lend themselves very well to GREAT discussions!

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Luis Rafon.
The mere fact that this complex book was translated into english (originally written in Spanish) will consume ten minutes for starters! The characters are quite interesting, and there are twists and turns that will have your head spinning- in a Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie kind of way. The story is full of evil and deception, and you often question if there is ever justification for people's horrid actions. Can you be good AND evil? Can you feel sorry for a character who is both? If you stick with this book, I think you will thoroughly enjoy hearing everyone's opinions and feelings about this book and its characters. An added bonu is that it is not so new anymore, so it may be easier to get a hold of!

Eat,Pray,Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
A new book , so you might have to buy it, but a book filled with juicy "nuggets" you will enjoy discussing as a group. Take notes while you read, and I KNOW you will enjoy laughing about your own perspectives on what the author makes you think about-spirituality, unique american perspectives on travel, and pleasure, the struggle to relax (if anyone has ever done yoga, there are hilarious stories about the challenges of meditation and silence) , and her relationship struggles are fun to analyze with the wisdom we all have as observers! Treat yourself to going to the author's website and reading her recent interviews. This story is non-fiction, although it reads like fiction at times.

Another suggestion: "When We Get There" by Shauna Seliy. Beautiful coming of age story, complex emotions, lots to discuss.
