2009 NBA Draft Preview: First Ten Selections

Who Will Be Picked After Blake Griffin?

9
The 2009 NBA draft is around the corner and the Los Angeles Clippers are on the clock. Even though we know who is going to be the first overall selection, the next nine picks are up for debate.

# 1 - Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers)

Griffin became the unanimous overall top selection for the 2009 NBA draft after his dominating performance in the most recent NCAA tournament. Griffin performance during the season, consisting of 22.7 points, 14.4 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game, helped earn him the Naismith award for the top player of the year. The big area of concern for Griffin in the NBA will be his 59% free throw percentage. This is something an area Griffin will need to improve upon because of his physical style of play. If he is able to accomplish this, then the Clippers will have found the star to rebuild their team around.

# 2 - James Harden (Memphis Grizzles)

The Memphis Grizzles have the second pick of the 2009 NBA draft and have been looking at several players to choose from. In the end, the Grizzles will make the right choice and go with Harden out of Arizona State. During the 2008-2009 college basketball season, Harden averaged 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game from the shooting guard position. What makes Harden special is his ability not only to make his shots, but to create shots for his teammates. The biggest drawback for Harden is the 3.4 turnovers he averaged during the season. If Harden is able to cut down on his mistakes, he will end up as an All-Star in the NBA.

# 3 - Hasheen Thabeet (Oklahoma City Thunder)
