If you are looking for a new business idea; something that isn't already tapped out within the market, here are five possible ventures that are certainly worth a glance.

1. Technology training for the retired and home bound. This is a service area need that is not currently being met. Retired people, who left the workforce prior to the computer age, as well as the disabled or otherwise home-bound have little or no computer or technical knowledge.

Many of today's elderly suffer from severe depression that results from their being cut off from society as whole. Some have family around them, but many do not. Oftentimes, even friends have abandoned them, making them feel totally alone. The same can be said for many disabled or otherwise home bound individuals who simply have no access to the outside world.

A business that would teach these individuals basic computer skills could open a whole new world for them by allowing them to connect with others. While it is unlikely that such a business would ever make anyone rich, since these individuals generally live on a fixed income and have little in the way of extra money, it could prove to be a very rewarding career.

The business could even be structured to help these individuals find and purchase the right kind of equipment for their specific needs. A clever business man or woman might be able to arrange special funding through both hardware and software vendors, which might include a finder's fee to supplement their income.

Capital requirements for this type of business would be relatively low. I would, however, recommend that business have its own laptop and key pieces of software specifically for teaching purposes. Obviously, a vehicle would be necessary since the business would require traveling to the customers rather than the other way around. And, should the business grow, it might be necessary to bring on additional personnel at some point. Overall, however, capital outlay should be minimal.

I'm with Scott. I could use a chef. How much?

Any word on how much the rent-a-chef might cost per plate?

Great job. I like the rent a chef idea because I don't know my way around a kitchen at all. Hehe. And the computer help for the elderly. That would be great for my grandmother who is always looking for someone to help her when she's on the computer. Bye

Great Article. I especially enjoyed computer help for the elderly. My own grandmother is a "computer granny" and she is always looking to learn more so I can relate to this. Also the kid resteraunt is fantastic!

I don't think many seniors are looking to pay money for technology. That sounds like a better idea for a nonprofit. I could see computer companies donating equipment in hopes of capturing a new seniors market. I like the other 4 initially as business ideas. Very interesting ideas. For the rent-a-chef, how much would that sort of thing cost per plate?

What fabulous ideas! My 12 y.o. son runs a computer business and I may suggest to him that he think about training the elderly as part of his offerings.
