1. Are you disciplined?Starting a work at home career requires discipline. Staying home can be a distraction. For example, it's easy to lie in bed until noon, or put off working in order to catch up on housework. To be successful, persons who begin a work at home career must view their occupation as a real job. Working from home does offer extra freedoms. You can work in your pajamas, flexible hours, etc. On the other hand, if you can't handle this newfound freedom, consider establishing a daily routine. Rise early and begin work around 8 or 9. Create a home office space, and don't leave until your daily assignments are complete.
2. Do you need a babysitter?
Many working moms trade in their office jobs for a work at home career, which let's them spend quality time with their children. On the flip side, working and caring for children at the same time could create problems. To give yourself a mental break, you might consider hiring a babysitter one or two days a week. If you get behind on your assignments, the sitter can entertain the children, and you can play catch up.
3. Are you able to meet your financial obligations?
Some work at home opportunities are very lucrative. With determination, you could earn a sizeable income. However, it can take several weeks or months before you see a profit. In the meantime, are you able to support yourself and family? To make ends meet, you might think about a temporary part-time job, and split the work day in half. In the mornings, devote four or five hours to your home business, and work outside the home for a few hours during the afternoon.
4. Can you handle isolation?
A work at home career typically means limited adult conversation and interaction throughout the day. Many people welcome the solitude. On the other hand, a constant quiet can become bothersome. Before submitting your letter of resignation, seriously take into account your personality. Do you enjoy the conversations and office politics? If so, a home based business may not be right for you. However, if you are a self-proclaimed recluse and prefer working independently, you can likely deal with a work from home job.
