Looking for something to do this summer besides the obligatory week at the Jersey shore? If you live in the Philadelphia area, here are 5 great day trips to take this summer:

Longwood Gardens. Located in Kennett Square PA, Longwood Gardens offers over 1000 acres of greenhouses and gardens. Kids will love this season's exhibit "Nature Castles" which is a display of 3 huge tree houses. There are also fireworks and fountains shows this summer and a "Bees, Bats and Bugs" exhibit. Crayola Factory. For the kid in all of us, the Crayola Factory, located in Easton, PA, is a great place to visit. Kids can create all sorts of artwork after they take a tour of the Crayola Crayon factory. After seeing how crayons are made, your kids can color on the walls, visit Cool Moves (a kaleidoscope), check out the Chalk Walk (a major sidewalk chalk area) and create one-of-a-kind masterpieces with melted crayon wax. Bushkill Falls/Poconos. In the mood for a hike? Bushkill Falls, dubbed "The Niagara of Pennsylvania" is home to eight awesome waterfalls which can be seen as you explore trails in the woods of the Pocono Mountains. Trails vary in length from a 15 minute walk on the Green Trail to the 2 mile long Red Trail, and will take you over 2 hours to cover. After you hike through the mountains, you can stop for a paddle boat ride or play a round of mini golf. Your kids will have so much fun they won't even realize they're getting exercise! You can also visit The Pennsylvania Wildlife Museum as you enter Bushkill Falls. There are also plenty of souvenir shops and places to eat.
