It's the American dream. Owning your own home is a lifetime goal of many Americans. Afterall, renting a house or apartment is costly. Sure, you pay your monthly rent and the majority of your housing e

But, at the end of a calendar year, besides having had a roof over your head, what do you have to show for the money you paid out?
