Is it really worth spending the extra money on organic food? According to experts it is very important especially for babies. A baby's system is more sensitive to pesticides than adults. Baby's that have eaten regular food or non-organic baby food have been found to have more pesticides in their blood than babies who have eaten organic baby food.

Regular baby food is made from concentrated vegetables, and have more pesticides in them. Where an adult can more safely handle regular food it is not the same for babies. It may not be as important for an adult to eat organic food but it is important to wash your vegetables and fruits with either a solution that you can find to wash them in the grocery store, or a very mild solution of dish soap. You can rinse it thoroughly and wash away a lot of the pesticides. Even if you buy organic fruits and vegetables you still want to wash them but it is more important to wash non-organic ones.

It is hard to know in restaurants how they handle their fresh vegetables and fruit. I know that their are some restaurants who do not wash their salad ingredients before serving them. That is disgusting and very unsanitary, so it is important to do what you can at home to eat more safely.

Not only do you have to worry about pesticides and bugs but when you pick out your fresh vegetables and fruit, notice how many people handle them. Yuck! I have seen people blow their noses, or wipe their children's noses, and then handle fruit. After examining it and fondling it, then they put it back. I am amazed at people who will pick out a few grapes or cherries and eat them. I suppose they want to test the fruit before buying it, but yuck, what kind of germs are they getting?

Back to the organic. Many mothers take the time to buy fresh organic vegetables and make their own baby food. God bless them. I never had the time or patience for that. It is great that organic baby food is now available to buy without agonizing over the work of making your own. Most companies actually can their foods right after picking that also insures that there are most nutrients in them.

I never bought anything organic. I rarely bought jar baby food, I did make alot of it myself from vegetables and fruits I bought fresh, but I don't think I ever thought much about it being organic. But my daughter hasn't been a baby for 15 years. Great article.

Yes yes yes! Good stuff here. I don't buy baby food... I just steam organic veggies and give them to her whole, as well as bite-sized fruits like organic blueberries. That way I know exactly what she's eating, and there is no water or fillers in her food. Good article.
