Top Ten U.S. Comedy Shows

The following is my list of the top ten U.S. sitcoms. The list includes some old favourites that appear in these kinds of lists, but also some less well known but equally great shows.

10) The Bernie Mac Show (2001 - 2006) This very funny series ran for five seasons and featured Bernie Mac as the lead character, along with his wife and his sister's three kids. Mac was left with the responsibility of looking after the kids while trying to maintain a healthy relationship with his wife. The show derived its humour from Mac's dealing with the children and from his humorous take on his altered state of life. The show was cancelled in its fifth season and sadly Bernie Mac died in 2008. He brought a fantastic amount of energy to anything he performed in and is much missed.

9) Will & Grace (1998 - 2006) This series ran for eight years and was very much a love it or hate it kind of show. The characters were flamboyant, outrageous and usually quite unsympathetic. If you met these people in real life, you wouldn't choose to spend much time with them, yet in a twenty-two minute slot, the four leads gel well, and give you some silly laughs and easy entertainment. It's not the title characters that made the show for most people; rather it was Jack and Karen, Will and Grace's friends. These two characters brought most of the laughs in each episode with their over the top antics and carefree attitudes.
