The Best Ever Groucho Marx Quotations

2
Julius Henry Marx, better known as "Groucho", was an absolute master of wit. In total he made thirteen feature films with the Marx Brothers. He also hosted the radio and television gameshows You Bet Your Life and Tell it to Groucho. His distinctive appearance included trademark glasses, cigar, and a thick set moustache and eyebrows.

So what are his best quotations? There are masses to choose from but, as a taster, here are ten of my favourites:

1) "If women dressed for men, the stores wouldn't sell much...just an occasional sun visor"

2) "Ever since they found out that Lassie was a boy, the public has believed the worst about Hollywood"

3) "No one is completely unhappy at the failure of his best friend"

4) "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book"

5) "I married your mother because I wanted children. Imagine my disappointment when you arrived"

6) "I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury"

7) "I chased a girl for two years only to discover that her tastes were exactly like mine: We were both crazy about girls"

8) "My favorite poem is the one that starts 'Thirty days hath September' because it actually tells you something"

9) "Behind every successful man is a woman, behind her is his wife"

10) "From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it"
