Menu Foods Pet Food Recall

The recent recall of Menu Foods Company dog and cat foods has caused many pet owners worry and grief. Dog and cats have died because their owners have trusted the pet food companies to produce foods that are safe for their pets. Many pet owners were surprised to learn that so many of the major pet food companies are purchasing from the same supplier, yet they tell us that their pet food is better than the other brand.

I personally do not understand why American pet food companies are using ingredients and food made in Canada. Canada, in my understanding, allows no American made pet food to cross their borders. The Menu Foods Company of Canada reported that once they began receiving complaints about the foods in question, they began testing the food on dogs and cats in their laboratory. Menu Foods themselves, admit to sickening and killing animals in their care by feeding them food they had suspected of poisoning consumers pets.

Why did it make sense to people working for Menu Foods, to continue feeding, what was reported to them as possibly tainted food to any animal? In my opinion, this incident of animal testing should be considered criminal conduct. Is there no better way to test pet foods than to put an animal in harms way? Do the people running these companies have no conscience? I see no valid reason for testing on animals to be occurring in this day and age. I believe these practices need to be stopped before more animals lives are lost without reason.

It is extremely disturbing to me that so many American dog food companies are knowingly doing business with suppliers who do routine testing on animals when other testing methods are available. This incident has been a huge wake up call for me and will be the cause for me spending more time on researching the foods I feed my pet . I thought, because I was feeding what was considered to be a premium pet food to my dogs, that they were safe. I now know that I was misinformed and wrong in believing what some companies advertise.
