When my husband and I got married, we bought an average vacuum cleaner, which worked well for a couple of months. I thought I would save money by purchasing a bagless vacuum cleaner, but all I got from it were many problems!

The things the vacuum picked up would continually get stuck somewhere in the vacuum, and I was constantly taking the vacuum apart to unstick the latest particle that had gotten trapped. Then it got clogged with Christmas tree needles and refused to have much suction at all. I was so frustrated with our vacuum, when along came a vacuum cleaner salesman knocking on our door.

Since this salesman offered us free movie and pizza coupons just to listen to and watch his demonstration, we invited him into our home to show us why the Tristar was a great vacuum cleaner.

I have to say that the Tristar presentation was interesting. The salesman didn't dump a bunch of debris onto our carpet, like I expected he would. I don't actually remember what he did do to impress upon us how great the Tristar vacuum cleaner worked, but somehow he convinced both me and my husband that the Tristar would be a nice investment. At least much better than my current non-suctioning bagless vacuum.

After some banter with the salesman, we bought the Tristar vacuum cleaner, and for the most part, I have no regrets about doing so. Yes it was extremely expensive, but I needed a functioning vacuum cleaner. Yes there are cheaper vacuums similar to the Tristar, but I didn't know about them at the time. If I would have known that, I would not have purchased the Tristar. But I did purchase the Tristar, and after nearly 4 years of usage, it still works as well as the day we purchased it.

The Tristar does require bags. At first I was worried about constantly having to purchase more bags for the Tristar, but then my husband found a great price for the Tristar bags in bulk online. We purchased multiple bags a few years ago and are still well stocked for a few more years. The bags go inside the machine easily and come out easily, although I have to be careful not to spill all the lint and dirt if the bag is extremely full.

Takeaways
  • The Tristar vacuum is expensive, but is a great vacuum cleaner.
  • Supposidly there are cheaper vacuums similar to the Tristar.
Did You Know?
Regardless of price, I was so glad to hear there was such a vacuum as the Tristar vacuum.

The tri-star salesmen came in did their routine of vacuuming a spot for 5 minutes with our machine, and then going over the same spot with the tri-star and picking up lots of dirt that ours hadn't picked up. We didn't buy the tri-star because it was way over our budget. So The very next day, just for fun, I stuck a coffee filter in the hose of our vacuum (a 15 year old Beam central vac with an old Dirt Devil power head I put on with the original power head quit working). I went over the same spot as the Tri-Star fellows and picked up an amazing amount of dirt! I went over the same spot another 6 times with a fresh coffee filter each time, and picked up the same amount of dirt each time!! I looked like I was picking up about the same amount of dirt as the Tri-Star fellows. So I think our vacuum is just fine. Probably most are. I'm sure the Tri-Star is a decent vacuum cleaner too. But what their demonstration most accurately demonstrates is how absolutely filthy regularly

I have a TriStar and love it. We bought ours 7 years ago and it still works perfect! Only down side is the fact that it's not an upright. But it will pick anything up off the floor. Our sales guy used our vacuum and cleaned a spot. Then he put a paper towel inside the canister [of the tristar] and vacuumed it over the spot again. It picked up a lot of stuff. But we still we're not sold on it. Finally my DH said well if it has a blower on it I'll buy it [joking] and the salesman said if it did would you really buy it. My husband said yep. And the darn guy connected the hose to the front [making it a blower] So we ended up buying it. We got ours for $1500 with a free vacation [that we never used] plus we got 200 for our old vacuum. all in all we paid $1300. breaking it down it was 185.00 a year for 7 years. We we're buying a new Vacuum every year before.

I just paid $220 for a Tristar from one of those little mom and pop stores that specialize in vacuums and sewing machines. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! I've had a Phantom Thunder for about 8 years and it was really laughable. We had to pick everything up off the floor (not big things mind you, just everything that was visible with the naked eye) before we vaccumed with it. Now, with this Tristar, I can vacuum wood floors, vinyl floors, carpet, and tile. It's amazing. And I disagree with the comment about being able to get something comparable at 1/8th the price. I have been through many vaccuums of varying prices, and by far, the best we've had is a Rainbow and the Tristar. (I got rid of the Rainbow because it was just too much trouble to fill the tank with water everytime I cleaned.) In my opinion, the best thing you could do is buy a 40-year-old Filter Queen. My parents had one when I was a kid, and still have it and it works like it did when it was bought. The guy I bought the

I had a tristar and loved it, loved it, loved it UNTIL it quit working. I can't remember how many years before this happened. Less than 10. We went to get it fixed, and it just never was the same again. I was really sad about it, too, because when it worked it was the best. Having to deal with a tristore dealer was a HASSLE! They said we would get free bags for life, they would never leave town, we could have it checked for free every year. Every one of these promises were broken. If you dont have a dealer in your town, you are really sunk when it comes to servicing the thing. We now have a Kenmore that pales in comparison.

the tristar is a decent product, probably not for the price tag but nevertheless a decent vacuum, i used to be one of their salesman one summer when i was in college and i made good money selling them, enough to pay my tuition for the next semester so that was cool since it would save me a few grand in loans. just gonna say that not to take it out on the salesman, hes probably a college student like i was lol

Yea I just bought my 2000.00 dollar vacuum on e-bay for 240.00 and it works great. Oh and just so you know Dysons are junk. In life you get what you pay for.

Thanks for your comment, Max. You're right about the high-pressure salesman. My husband and I agree that from now on, if we have to make a buying decision on the spot, that the answer will be a firm NO! But since we did purchase the Tri-star years ago, I went ahead and wrote a review about it. I am very happy with it. By the way, we didn't pay $2000 + for it; we talked our salesman way down, which was the only way we were willing to purchase it on the spot. The only other vacuum I know I'd be happy with would be a Dyson.

I hope you're enjoying your $2000+ vacuum cleaner. You gut suckered by a high-pressure salesman. The Trisar is nice, but you'd have done just as good with a vacuum cleaner at 1/8 the price.

Good article. I've never heard of this vacuum.

Great review. You give us the good and the bad :) Before I got my new vacuum, I was ready to chuck the old one out the door and run over it LOL

I hope I can buy a Dyson. I have seen where Target will offer a Target gift card with the purchase of a Dyson. Another creative artilce!

The only good vacuums that I've heard about all require some sort of investment. If I needed a vacuum right now, with my experience with vacuums, I would probably save up for a Dyson since that brand is easy to come by; I think it's around $500, which is still a lot, but definitely less than a Tristar.

I have not ever heard of the Tristar. They must not have salesman around here.
