What employers don't know about their employees could probably fill the Grand Canyon, but most of those are things you probably don't want to know. However, there are a few things that you probably don't know about your employees that could help you manage a more productive workplace. After all, having insight into the way your employees think and act will give you a more universal understanding of how your company operates on its most fundamental levels.

Since the job trends for 2007 indicate a focus on retention and job performance, employees are suddenly given power they never had before. They realize that although the job market is competitive, there are thousands of companies competing for their expertise. Businesses like yours want employees who plan to stick it out for the long haul so that training costs are reduced and productivity is increased. Following are a few things that you probably don't know about your employees.

They're All Looking for a New Job

You might think that you've created a positive, healthy working atmosphere for your employees, but think again. The grass always seems greener on the other side of the corporate fence and your employees are constantly on the lookout for new possibilities. According to Salary.com, at least 65% of employees are actively looking for new jobs, while as many as 80% are open to the idea should the opportunity arise. This doesn't necessarily mean that you've created a negative workplace environment, but it does mean that you need to beef up your employee incentives programs. Give employees a reason to stay, and they probably will.

Your Most Experienced and Productive Employees Will Leave First
