If you're a single woman seeking to date men, you've probably done the online, as well as the offline, dating scene. Either option tends to be costly. If you're offline, you find yourself standing around in bars or nightclubs, sizing up the other women who are younger, have had more surgery, or more revealing clothing. Online, you're wondering just how much of your personal budget can truly be devoted to such a search, with sites like match.com, e-harmony.com, and others all charging some type of fee.

Enter craigslist.org, the community site more known for jobs and offloading stuff you don't want or need -- with personal ads to help you find the guy you want.

But posting and sorting through the responses from your craigslist.org personal ad is like no other experience online or off.

For starters, you need to know that men vastly outnumber women on the site. Overall, this increases your chances, but it also means you'll need to be willing to screen the responses carefully. It is not unusual for a woman to receive 250 or more responses to a single posting.

Your first step in screening, however, is how you write the ad itself and when you post it. Honesty is key. Don't say you look like a porn star if you really look like a reality show star. Don't say you're 25 if you're 45. Mention the kids and the dog if they're important to you at all. Don't worry -- you'll still get plenty of responses. Even if you write, "Female, desperate, weighs 800 pounds, fashion sense boils down to burlap sacs," there will be some guy who writes back that he not only likes big women, but the feel of friction from the burlap turns him on and is a secret fetish of his, possibly even pointing you to his favorite fetish site showing pictures of same, and he is just so thrilled you posted your ad!

Did You Know?
Did you know women often get 250 responses (and more) to a single craigslist.org personal ad? 500 responses is not uncommon!

Very interesting! I never posted an ad on CL, but did respond with some banter to an interesting ad a guy had posted. We met after almost a month of emailing back and forth, and are going strong a year later : ).
