As the war in Iraq meets it's fourth year, Americans anxiously watch as the war seems to endlessly drag on. Images of dead soldiers and devastated Iraqi civilians beam from our television screens. With each passing day and each lost life in Iraq, the question is asked, are American lives lost in Iraq being "wasted"? or is Iraq still a winnable cause worth fighting for? Congressman from Democrat Barack Obama to Republican John Mccain have both tossed out the term "wasted" to describe the loss of over 3,000 American serviceman stationed in Iraq, drawing heavy uproar from critics calling such descriptions insensitive and even degrading. What these critics fail to generate is a solution to the lingering quagmire that is Iraq. Where do we go from here? A proposal that has been largely overlooked is a three state solution. Such a solution proposed recently by Democratic Senator Joe Biden would essentially transform Iraq into three separate countries with sunnis, shiites and kurds each maintaining their own areas and governments.

Takeaways
  • Reasoning behind the need for a three state solution
  • Level of animosity among the ethic groups in Iraq
