Internet Addict-No, Not Me

Years ago when I was working, I had no use for computers. I didn't use computers much where I worked. I was kind of forced into using the computer. The Purchasing Agent at the store where I worked was leaving and I was
promoted into his position. I had helped him at times with ordering, so I was the one selected to fill his position. I didn't know how to use Word or Excel, Windows or the Internet.

I had to learn most of what he did in a week. I decided to go to night school to learn these programs better. My boss would try to help me, but she wasn't a good teacher. I went to a class on Windows, Word and Excel. I even decided to buy my own computer to practice on at home. My first computer purchase was a Dell desktop computer. Back then, it cost me about $2,000.00. It turned out to be one of the best investments I ever made.

I did my lessons from school at home and I passed each class. I also bought a printer. I found I enjoyed typing letters on the different cool stationary papers. I then became interested in the Internet when our company started its own website. Since, I knew nothing about using the internet, I went and took a class on that as well. After that, I hooked up to the internet at home.

I found out about emailing, e-cards and searching for anything you were interested in. I would stay up till 3:00 in the morning sometimes when I first got hooked up. It was so full of information. It was so much fun, I told my dad it was the best toy I ever had.

Next, I started online shopping, including E-bay of course. I got a little carried away with that at first. It was so easy, but when my credit card bill came in the mail, I decided I had to slow it down. It was just so thrilling winning an auction. I loved getting packages in the mail. I would have the packages sent to my workplace and naturally I had to share what I got with my co-workers.

The next thing I discovered was online survey sites that offered points toward gift cards or cash! I was so excited! I signed up for a Pay Pal Account and I was all set to go. I tried different sites and kept the ones I liked and got rid of the others. I was really excited when I got my first check and my first gift card.

There are worse addictions to have then the internet.
Great article, Leigh. I, too do many of the types of sites you mentioned as I'm a stay at home mom. It all adds up to savings. I, too carry a pen and paper at all times and jot down article ideas. It's all part of thinking like a freelance writer. Congrats to you on finding the wonderful world of computers!
I managed to actually get dressed today.
Good article Leigh! I think we do the same things online and I, too, manage to keep up with most of the laundry anyway :)
