Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania Treasures
Three Things Every Schuylkill County Native Enjoys
If you ever happen to find yourself traveling through Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania, you'll know you're there when you see mountains of coal lining all of the roads, make sure to look up some of the natives' favorite treats. A few of these treats you will have heard of; Mrs. T's Pierogies and Yuengling fine brewed beer. Other favorites will sound extremely strange, for example Guers Iced Tea. However, if you walk up to one of the many residents, most of which are extremely friendly and happy to talk to any stranger, they will tell you that in order to experience what its like to be a true coal cracker you need to try all of these products.I'm sure you have all heard of the polish treat the pierogie, but have you ever heard of the best pierogie? As a life long resident of Mahanoy City, a little coal town in Schuylkill County, its hard to eat any pierogie that isn't a Mrs. T's pierogie. Whether you get them deep fried at a summer bazaar, or you make them at home with butter and onions, they are hands down the best tasting pierogies around. All of the following information about Mrs T's can be found on the Mrs. T's website. Mrs. T's became a favorite in 1952 when Mrs. T, short for Mrs. Twardzik, herself started making the pierogies in large batches for church functions. Later, her son Ted (yes another T name) realized just how popular these little potato filled delights were becoming. The first Mrs. T's factory he opened is still located in Ted's hometown of Shenandoah. Don't worry if you don't think you'll be in Pennsylvania anytime soon, Mrs. T's will be more than happy to ship some pierogies to you ASAP.
