So you are getting married, congratulations! I know you might have already booked what you consider to be the "important parts" of your wedding such as the church, reception hall, caterer, photographer, etc., but don't overlook that decision on a disc jockey (or DJ for short). Many people feel that there are so many disc jockeys around that they all are the same. In reality they are not, you need to make sure you spend time researching your disc jockey just like you would on the other components of your wedding. The first place to look would either be on-line, at a bridal fair, or maybe get a suggestion from friends of yours who either were married recently or attended a wedding. Next, you need to make an appointment to meet with the DJ.

When you meet with the DJ, show up at their company's office a little early. This will give you a chance to "surprise" them, and get an idea of how organized they truly are. I'm not saying show up half an hour early or more, I am suggesting about fifteen to twenty minutes early. If they work for a large company, this will also give you an opportunity as you wait in the waiting area to see how professional the business is. You will be able to see if dj's are arriving to pick up equipment for events, and also see how they act when they aren't "on their best behavior" like they will be at an event or in the interview. Pay attention to how the receptionist for the company handles any problems that might arise on the phone while you are there. This will give you a feel for how they will handle any difficulties that might arise on your big day.

Takeaways
  • Think of the DJ as an emcee and a guide for your special night.
  • Let the DJ know if there are any special requests to play or not to play during the night.
  • Find out about set-up and break-down time that they will require so your reception hall is prepared.
Did You Know?
One of the most important things is the communication between yourself and the DJ. This is why you should request to meet them before your event, preferably at the first interview.
