Butte, Montana hosts the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the state of Montana. In fact, most Montana cities offer shuttle rides to Butte so everyone can enjoy the music, dances, parties, cuisine, demonstrations, parades, and of course green beer. Butte stretches out their St. Patrick’s Day celebration for several weeks, so if you are in the area in March, chances are you will be able to enjoy some form of Celtic/Gaelic entertainment. However, the bulk of the St. Paddy’s Day fun will take place on St. Patrick’s Day.

The Parade

The Butte St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off the day’s activities. It starts at 11:00 in the morning in uptown Butte. Participants line up on the corner of Mercury Street and Colorado Street to begin the parade route. If you are not familiar with the city, just look for the Mai Wah Museum or the Uptown Pork Chop John’s restaurant. These two establishments are next to the parade route starting line. The parade route starts on the corner of Colorado and Mercury and travels east down Mercury to Wyoming Street. Here the parade route veers north onto Granite Street. The parade follows Granite to until it intersects with Montana Street. Paraders then turn west on Montana Street and follow this street until they pass the County Courthouse. Montana Streets turns south and leads the paraders back to Mercury Street and the parade ends at the intersection of Mercury and Dakota Street.

If you want to participate in the Butte St. Patrick’s Day Parade, or other Butte St. Patrick's Day events you can visit http://www.butteinfo.org for more information.
