Fullmetal Alchemist (The Beginning)

Fullmetal Alchemist takes place in a country called Ametris a alternate reality where a science known as Alchemy is possible. Alchemy literally is the investigation of nature and an early philosophical and spiritual discipline, both combining elements of chemistry, metallurgy, physics, medicine, astrology, semiotics, mysticism, spiritualism, and art all as parts of one greater force. In this anime Alchemy is applicable to anything except humans.

The art of human alchemy is forbidden as the results of it are almost surely death. Which brings us too are two main characters Ed Elric and Alphonse Elric. Ed and Al's mother died when they were very young and they were raised by there good friend Winry's grandmother Pinako. Pinako creates auto-mal (auto mal are robotic limbs) and Winry is her apprentice. Winry's parents were two military doctors who have gone to war and have been executed for treason. The treason being for treating wounded enemy soldiers.

After a while of being in Pinoko's custody Ed and Al see Alchemy perform by stranger who saves the village (Ressinbul) from flooding. Ed and Al insist that she must teach them alchemy. After much begging and pleading on the part of Ed and Al the woman who they will come to know and refer to as Teacher, decides that she will teach them if they survive on there own in a deserted island by themselves with only a knife for 30 days. And when the thirty days is up they must tell her what they learned.

As soon as they are on the island they have difficulty creating shelter and finding food and to make matters worse there is a horrible ogre that thrashes and beat them to a pulp. As soon as the first beating is over they get tough and take control of the situation. They spear fish and set traps for wild animals for food and for the ogre problem they instead of trying to run away they stood and fought and after the ogre sees their determination to protect one another he backs off and they do not encounter him any more. Thirty days goes by and they survive.
