Today Google has announced the expansion of an interesting new feature in its advertising services that will be very appealing to the users of its Adsense programme.

Currently businesses looking to attract Internet users to their websites can choose to advertise on a pay-per-click basis. This means that each time someone clicks on their ad they pay a fee to Google.

However, the new feature just announced by Google, will be extremely attractive to businesses using Google to advertise. Instead of pay-per-click, advertisers can choose a pay-per-action ad. The pay-per-action advertising will only be available to Adsense ads. These are ads that are displayed on websites and not Google's search result listings.

This new advertising feature by Google has been in the works since last year but only on a small test scale. The reason Google chose to look into alternatives for Adsense advertisers is because this method of advertising has caused some controversy due to its vulnerability to click fraud. The pay-per-action advertising should greatly reduce the chances of click fraud.

Click fraud is carried out for two main reasons. The biggest problem is occurring from website publishers who display Adsense ads. These publishers are intentionally clicking on the ads purely for increasing their commission revenue. The other reason for click fraud happens when one competitor is purposely clicking on a competitor's ad, in order to drive up their advertising expenditure, in hopes of damaging the company's profits.

So how does click-per-action work? When using this mode of advertising users can design their ads so that they pay only when a specific action on their website is performed. Advertisers have the freedom to choose which action this is. So for example the user may have to fill out a form before the payment for the clicked ad is activated.
