His gayness, Sir Elton John, may been banned from the island of Tobago for being an openly public homosexual. The island country of Tobago, as well as other Caribbean countries, have laws in place to deny entry to any person being openly gay. These edict(s) are written into their entry (immigration) laws, which to paraphrase essentially say, " you can't come in if your gay."

One religious official is making public his disdain for Elton John's coming to the country to perform. Archdeacon Philip Isaac warned in one Jamaican newspaper, "his visit can open up the country to being tempted towards pursuing his lifestyle. His lifestyle is questionable and as one of god's children he needs to be ministered to."

Archdeacon Philip Isaac of Trinidad and Tobago, along with other religious leaders there, want to ban him because his sexuality does not conform with biblical teaching. Homosexuality on Tobago is "widely condemned. " He also openly condemned the singer's marriage to long-time partner David Furnish, quoting the bible, "a man shall not lie with a man." The Archdeacon and religious leaders there also have intimated that they believe that letting Sir Elton John perform at a concert on the island would be paramount to letting him influence island natives to become gay,or "open the country to be tempted towards pursuing his lifestyle."

Festival organizer Anthony Maharaj countered, "He is coming as one of the world's greatest performers-not to preach about what lifestyle people should have. This country should be honoured to have Sir Elton John perform in Tobago." Elton John is scheduled to appear at the Plymouth Jazz festival on Tobago in April. And promoters of the event are insisting that Elton John will close the event as the headliner on its third day on April 29th.

I can't help it, this brings about an interesting question for me. How different does gay music sound than straight music? Seriously some of my favorite musicians are openly gay and there are a few in the mix that are intentionally ambiguous, perhaps to avoid situations such as this. It's a sad reality but in truth the lyrics to Elton John's music strike me as far more 'wholesome' then some of the other lyrics floating around the music industry. Interesting read.

Pete not all gay and lesbians advertise their sexuality. For some who do maybe we wouldn't have to if we had the same rights as everyone else. I get so sick and tired of others using religion as a form of hate towards us homosexuals. We aren't deviant or perverts. We are just as normal as you straight people, we just happen to love the same sex. Love is love and there is nothing wrong with that.

It is their choice, not because there is at least one country in the world where people still believe in the teachings of the bilble means they are not enlightened! They cannot control everything that goes on in people's private lives in tobago but they can control what public entertainment is promoted. it can be logically infered that any love song Elton John sings is about another man!!!

This is a great example of of how small-minded people can take control of even the most ridiculous things. Tobagonians (or whatever they are called) need to wake up. How many of their men (and women) are living on what we Americans know as "the downlow"? Just bc you are not openly gay doesn't mean you are practicing it. This is 21st Century world, isn't it? As a Christian I, too belive homosexuality is wrong. But like Jesus Christ - I love the sinner, but hate the sin. They need to read their bible better. Great article.

Homosexuals will always create hostility because they feel the need to broadcast there sexuality. Try just living your life and keeping your mouth shut. (pardon the pun)

They will be missing out. Great article!

Were I Sir Elton I'd be there in a flash and I'd put on the best show I've done in 15 years - just to spite 'em. In fact, I'd find a way to have it free to the public so the most people possible could attend, too.

They're missing out on a great performance.

Thats right TT, stay put with your law, dont let any famous pig enter your house, it will destroy your peaceful island, who cares if you are Elton or what?, let him stay in his hometown, he is no longer famous as he was before, he is anti-american, and of course he doesn't like jews and christian and he is scared of saying or do anything against muslim or islam, so who is actually elton... he is a destroyer of peace and son of devil, thats why he used the burning church in his video and concert. TT dont let the dirty animal enter your home because it will dirty your house.

I wouldn't be too concern yet. Elton has ways of getting around such laws. K.D. is right, there is no stopping Elton in what he wants to do.

Trinidad and Tobago like Jamaica and most of the west indies are just extremely homophobic. Unfortunately that is where I'm from. The West Indies that is. I've actually had to explain to some gay friends why they should not listen to a certain Jamaican song. They did not understand what Boom By By in a bauti boy head, meant. It means shoot them in the head and it is a popular reggae song. Very disgusting.
