Cleveland's Eastern Suburbs Have Many Fine Places to Get Latkes

Cleveland's Eastern suburbs have a large Jewish population. As a result there are many places that serve latkes, known to the uninitiated as potato pancakes. I come from a German family and have searched without luck for someone who made them like my mother. Still there are some noteworthy places for latkes in Cleveland.

Jack's Deli

Jack's is considered by many the best deli in Cleveland. The latkes come golden brown and oval shaped. Crunchy in the outside and soft on the inside these latkes are amongst the best in town. A full order consists of three and half orders (2) are available. Also available is a corned beef and latke sandwich. This is comprised of a mound of delicious corned beef crammed between two latkes.

Long a staple of the Cleveland area Corky's & Lenny's has been around since well before my high school days in the 60's. The latkes here are crisp, brown circles of delight. They come two or three to an order and have a bit more flour than Jack's I think. They also are available in a corned beef and latke sandwich. The deli counter usually has a supply in the refrigerated display case for carry out.

Located in a shopping strip this little known establishment is not bad for a little hole in the wall. The latkes are big, doughy things with a nice flavor. They come four to an order and also come in a corned beef and latke sandwich. These are quite passable, but a traditionalist will want a bit more crunch.

Latkes here come four to an order. They are a crunchy mix of onion and potato. They are fairly good but perhaps a bit less flavorful than those served at Jack's or Corky's. Still I get them almost every time I stop in and can recommend them if you are in the area and have the taste for some latkes.
