Why is that nowadays we have to "know" someone to get hired into a job? We have the experience and we have the drive and desire to succeed and do well. But now more than ever before we have to know someone to even get an interview. This paves the way for that person who just "got by" during your college years while you worked your tail off to do well and build your resume. Then you get rejected with them telling you: "Thank you for applying. While you have strong skills and experience, we have deiced to hire someone with the experience matching our needs."

COME ON! How do we get the experience needed if you do not give it to us? Too oftend in the job industry it is that message that is given to rejected applicants. What is worse, is that everyone does backround checks and includd in those checks, are your credit history. Since when does your credit history determine how qualified you are for the job? Finding a job is a job in itself, but with all these "requirements" now it is making it hard for your average, four year degree, citizen to get a job other than waiting tables or managing a local fast food resteraunt.

Gone are the days of people telling us, if you work hard enough, you will get what you want. It has been replaced with, if you scmooze hard enough, you can get what you want. Networking is now how you get a job and that crucial interview you have been pining for. Meeting as many people as you can just created more opportunities to be seen and heard even more than just sending a cover letter and resume. I am no expert in this at all so do not take what I say here to heart. But is 90% correct.
