"Taco Bell Truck": Free Tacos? Sorry, Just Another Twitter Fake
Free Tacos? Come on Now ..
I saw a Tweet on Twitter about a user named "Taco Bell Truck". Curiosity got the best of me and I clicked on the link. Supposedly there is a truck that drives around handing out free Taco Bell tacos. The page has listings for the West Coast in Huntington Beach (June 20), Los Angeles (June 21 and 22), Phoenix (June 25 and 26) and Albuquerque (June 27 and 28). Hummm, free tacos? It seemed too good to be true so I slipped on my cyber detective hat and went to the Taco Bell website to see if there was any information posted about it.http://twitter.com/tacobelltruck
Bio: We drive around the country, handing out free Taco Bell tacos to people. What's not to like?
There was no mention of the Taco Bell Truck at the website so I called the toll free customer service line. Calling them on a Saturday morning probably wasn't the best idea but I had to get to the bottom of this quandary. I heard the prerecorded message about how valuable I am to them and to please hold the line for the next available guest representative about 40 times. I was tempted to hang up and call back during the week but I was on a mission.
Michelle came on the line and asked for my name and phone number, after giving her that I told her about the Taco Bell Truck page at Twitter and she let out a very hearty laugh. "If there was such a thing, I'm sure there would be commercials about it". I told her I didn't see anything on the website so I decided to call and get to the bottom of things. I didn't call without checking Google and a few other websites to see if there was any mentioning of the "free taco" offer from the Taco Bell Truck. The closest I could come to a "free taco" was a promotion that Taco Bell had in October and that was a regional campaign.
