Healthy Alternatives to Soda #1: Water

Water is the number one healthy alternative to soda. Water not only hydrates your body better than any other drink, but water also helps you to lose weight. People should get at the very least six 8 ounce glasses of water into their diet everyday. The preferred amount is 64 ounces, but very few Americans are getting anywhere near this amount.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #2: Green Tea

Why is green tea a healthy alternative to soda? Green tea actually boosts your metabolism, making it easier for your body to burn calories. Does soda do that? No. Be sure to look for a green tea that is decaffeinated, because caffeine promotes dehydration.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #3: Crystal Light

Crystal Light is a healthy alternative to soda because it is calorie free. Also certain flavors of Crystal Light have added health benefits, such as vitamins. You can even get green tea Crystal Light that is flavored with honey and lemon.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #4: Milk

Milk keeps your bones strong and studies have shown that drinking low fat milk helps you to lose weight. Milk is definitely a healthy alternative to soda. If you don't like boring, plain milk look for low fat chocolate milk.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #5: Vanilla Soy Milk

Soy milk is very heart healthy, making it a perfect alternative to soda. Soy milk is filled with protein, is low in fat and calories, and tastes pretty good. If you're scared of trying soy milk, don't be. Soy milk actually has a nutty, sweet taste.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #6: Freshly Prepared Juices

Making your own juice is a healthy alternative to soda. Juices that are prepared from home lack the preservatives and added sugar of juices that are store bought. Try mixing carrot juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice for flavorful morning drink.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #7: V8 Splash

Store bought juices can be very high in sugar, but one serving of V8 Splash has a serving of fruit and vegetables. How could it not be healthy? Of course, you will want to drink this beverage sparingly, because of its sugar content.

Healthy Alternatives to Soda #8: Orange Juice

A good list . . . some days I can go for about 2 - 3 days without a soda and then I grab a Diet Pepsi . . .

Good article. I mostly drink green tea. It is better for you if you squirt a little lemon or lime in it instead of sweetener. I read that on Dr. Oz's website, the guy from Oprah.

good list. What about gatorade

Good list. I would ammend one item though. Crystal Light uses imitation sweeteners which are more harmful than sugar. A better alternative would be Celestial Seasoning's Zingers To Go, which use stevia (an herb that can actually boost your immune system rather than harm it as artificial sweeteners do) to sweeten.

I usually drink from bottled water, so I find it easier to keep track of how much water im drinking if i look at the liters rather than the ounces. You need 2 liters a day, so I think its easier to do the math in your head if you see that the bottle you're drinking is marked .455 liters or something. You know that you need about 3 more bottles. I think I would definitely lose track if i tried to count whether i was getting 64 oz!

fantastic read! i'm trying to kick soda so thanks a lot. and to the naysayer soda has a TON more acid than anything she mentioned... heck enough coke will give me massive heartburn all by itself.

Good article, I'm happy to see water is #1 on the list. I'm a big water fan myself, as I'm a resident of the Southwest desert.

Great subject & great article! Although I do agree that Crystal Lite is not really the best choice as a 'healthy' drink, it is far better than soda any day. I can't say that I never drink soda, if it is offered to me, I will usually have a small glass if nothing else is available, but we don't waste our precious grocery & gas money on soda either. Another great alternative, like the green tea...some herbal tea like Celestal Seasoning Zinger teas. They make great sun tea, just add a bit of honey while the tea is still hot from the sun. Good job!
