Boston is one of our nation's historic cities. It is also a perfect place to spend Independence Day. There are countless things to do in Boston on the Fourth of July. Visitors can immerse themselves in our nation's history while celebrating its independence. Here is a list of just a few of the things you can do in Boston on the fourth of July.

Flag Raising Ceremony and Parade

At 9:00 a.m. there is a flag raising ceremony at Boston's City Hall Plaza. After the flag raising ceremony the parade sets out for the Granary Burial Ground. The parade pauses at the burial ground to pay respect for those buried there. From there the parade continues to the Old State House. The parade should end around 10 a.m.. At that time there is a reading of the Declaration of Independence from the balcony of the Old State House.

USS Constitution's July 4th Underway Demonstration

From 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. the USS Constitution sails in the Boston Harbor from the Charlestown Navy Yard to the U.S. Coast Guard Base. During its trip the USS Constitution gives a 21-gun salute to Fort Independence at Castle Island. This spectacle can be viewed from various points on the harbor. However, it is best viewed from Fort Independence.

"Cock . . . Lock! Present . . . Fire!"

Starting at 11:30 a.m. there is a demonstration at the Bunker Hill Monument. Performers put on a demonstration of 18th century military practices. The demonstration ends at 3:30 p.m..

Cape Verdean Independence Celebration

Beginning at 2pm, back at the City Hall Plaza, there is a Cape Verdean Independence Day Celebration. There is food, dancing and crafts at this celebration. There are even games that you can play with your family.
