A PC
You'll need a complete computer set (not just a computer monitor) to watch TV using the internet. Your computer should have a TV tuner card, the appropriate software and a modem. In order to equip your PC, you'll only need to plug the tuner into a USB port and then use the CD-ROM included with the device to copy the software into your PC.
A TV tuner card includes a decoder, coaxial aerial connector and an RF tuner. The transmitted signal is passed from the antenna towards the tuner and on to the computer decoder. Depending on your set up, the signal will either be passed further to your computer's processor or to a decoder specifically delegated for the job.
A good software program
The software program makes it possible for you to view the TV images on your computer. Some of the most popular include RealPlayer, Media Player from Windows and QuickTime from Apple. You can install one or two of these software to ensure that every time you go to a TV channel website, you can gain access immediately. If you don't have the appropriate software, the site will be able to detect your media settings and offer you a download (usually free) of the basic version of the program.
An internet connection
For the best view of TV programs using the internet, you'll need a fast and reliable internet connection, such as those available with broadbands and cable connections. This is because TV signals need to be transmitted continuously from the point of broadcast to your computer. Your internet connection should be fast enough in order to turn these signals into the correct images. If it's slow, it will either distort the video or fail to show any picture.
