Cape Cod Museums

Rescue from a Rainy Day

Cape Cod museums are to vacationing families what Cape Cod lighthouses used to be to ships lost in a coastal storm - rescue and safe harbor in rough waters. People come to Cape Cod for the most part to make use of the incredible beaches from Falmouth to Provincetown. They want to swim, sun and watch their kids enjoy the sandy beach. All of those dreams seem squashed when a front moves in and dampens the weather, the beach and everyone spirits. Knowing about Cape Cod Museums and visiting one or two Cape Cod museums can save the day.

A unique place to begin, when hoping to save an inclement day on Cape Cod, can be at the Sandwich Glass Museum. Located in Sandwich,Ma the Sandwich Glass Museum has been displaying its wares for a full century and delighting Cape Cod locals and visitors in the process. The museum seeks not only to share the crafting process and completed beauty of locally created glass works, but along the way to tell the story of the development of a Cape Cod community built around this cottage industry.

The Sandwich Glass Museum is located appropriately at 129 Main St. in Sandwich directly across from the Town Hall indicating perhaps the central position glass work has held in this community. During the summer months the museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.. Cost for admission is $5 for adults and $1.25 for children from 7-14. Under 6 children are admitted free of charge.
