The first major step in house hunting is determining the type real estate that you desire and how much you are willing to spend for it. Once that critical step has been resolved, it will be time to consider where you would like your new home to be. Well, what exactly is the best location for you? You will certainly have personal desires but it is also important to consider several other factors often overlooked that will influence your overall satisfaction with the neighborhood. This article will help you determine what these factors are and how to look for them.

Creating a thorough list that notes all of the attributes you find important in a home will be helpful in getting the search started. This list of must-haves and would-like-to-haves increases the overall chances that you will find a community that is a good fit for your family. For example, is it important for you to have a home that is central to frequently visited locations such as grocery stores, libraries, and a post office? Would you and your children feel safe in the neighborhood and its surrounding areas? Is the home a part a gated community and are there any association fees to consider?

If you have young children or plan on doing so in the future, it may be important for you to find out where the nearest schools are located. Research may be required to learn about the current zoning regulations and perhaps talk to the school zoning board to see if there are any future plans for rezoning. If a school may not be within walking distance, you may also wish to see if the school policies offer bus transportation in your area.
