I think a lot of the reason behind the midlife crisis for married men today has to do with a loss of adventure. I mean, where's the pioneer spirit? Where's the excitement and danger we used to experience as single males. You know, like the hazardous task of doing laundry three times a year, or the life threatening challenge of eating that four day old piece of pizza that never made it to the refrigerator. Let's admit it guys, life can become pretty monotonous. Unless, of course, you choose to keep life exciting and adventurous. And that can be accomplished by just looking at normal tasks with a pioneer spirit. For example one of my favorite things to do all by myself is grocery hunting. My wife calls it grocery shopping, but I'm sure "shopping" is Latin for "killing dinner". I look at going to the super market as an adventure, a mission, a hunting expedition.. I guess it comes from our pioneer ancestors who would leave home for 2 or three weeks to hunt deer, or bear, or elk. He would leave his wife and the little kids at home to take care of things while he went "shopping". If he had older boys, he would take them along for company and teach them how to "shop". He didn't take the girls because they spent too much time picking out the deer with skin that would match their shoes. Anyway, with a little research I'm sure you'll find that grocery hunting/shopping is a great example of the God created roles of men and women. A trip to the grocery store for a man today can be either a boring household duty, or it can be an exciting "hunting" adventure; just make sure you don't stay gone for 2 or 3 weeks!
