"You like chick flicks." A statement, not a question and it staggered me. As an attempt to fill a conversational void, I had mentioned that the night before I had watched "A Lot Like Love," an Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet movie. My Monday night bartending partner had heard me mention other movies over the previous months and saw the big picture-I watched and liked chick flicks-so she told me.

Could this be? I mentally examined my viewing habits over the last year. She was absolutely correct. The pattern emerged as the images came rushing back to me. There was Reese Witherspoon lying in a hospital bed as Mark Ruffalo wished he couldn't see dead people in "Just Like Heaven," John Cusack with snow flakes floating around him waiting for Kate Beckinsale to fortuitously show up again in "Serendipity," Paul Bettany sweating away at the net as Kirsten Dunst risks her father's ire in "Wimbledon," and the list could go on. I probably got started with John Cusack in "High Fidelity" although I'm sure I was lured into that one by the promise of the music. You might think I had a John Cusack obsession after hearing that I've seen him with the luscious Diane Lane in "Must Love Dogs."

I didn't notice that you didn't like Divine Secrets. I think you have to be a mom with a few years under her belt to appreciate it. I can identify with Vivi's anguish over her past choices. We worry as Moms about how we have damaged our children through our own mistakes and faults. This movie is catharsis for me. I don't know which song you are referring to as your favorite. The song that plays when Vivianne is dancing around with sparklers in her nightgown praying to Mary Mother of God makes me crawl up in a ball and sob everytime. I know what you mean about good movie content and storyline. I did, for some odd reason like the high octane Fast and the Furious-Tokoyo Drift. But the kid was kind of hot.

oh yeah! I am very proud of you Charles! and Zito! Well done! I have been happily married for 21 years and my husband is an avowed chick flick fan, especially those with a film noir quality! We love Moonstruck and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
