Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama Visits Atlanta

The man who hopes to become the first black President of the United States will be visiting Georgia on Monday, March 25^th 2007. His visit centers around fundraising efforts for his campaign. At the Atlanta Hyatt, several thousand people are expected to put up somewhere between $500 and $2,300 per person for a ticket to the event. Who is this man they're coming to see? OBAMA'S RACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE

Though Monday's fundraising event will be fairly exclusive, it is expected that Barack Obama will return to the city in April to host an event which will be "free and open to the public."

Currently, the Legislature is weighing in a bill which would push the Georgia primary up to February 5^th. Should this occur, it is estimated that the state would have more of an instrumental purpose in the White House race. Additionally, Obama's Georgia supporters are excited about his visit to Atlanta. Some speculate that due to the state's large African American population, the Illinois senator will do well with his campaign. However, even though almost half of the electorate in Georgia's 2004 Democratic party was comprised of black persons, some African American leaders have acknowledged Obama's failure to reach out to them thus far.

State representative Tyrone Brooks, a civil rights activist who helped organize Jesse Jackson's presidential campaign states that even though he has not heard from Obama, he welcomes the opportunity to speak with him regarding his campaign.

And it seems that Barack Obama has amassed other fans. Democratic fundraiser Kirk Dornbush admits that he has become "starry-eyed" by the Illinois senator. While he has ties to the Clinton family, he claims that he has become inspired by the spirited politician.

He states: "I read his book over my daughter's Christmas break and I was hooked."
