Prevent Your Asthma Attacks

Allergies/Irritants
Dust, smoke, fumes, chemicals, and animals can all cause an asthma suffer to have an attack. If you have asthma, you should make sure you do not smoke or be around people who smoke. Even second-hand smoke can be troublesome. You should also make sure there is not a lot of dust in your home. A regular cleaning schedule will benefit you greatly.
Weather
Cold air can easily trigger an asthma attack. When going out into the cold, make sure you wear a heavy scarf over your nose and mouth. This will help to warm the air that you breath. In the spring, pollen can be a troublesome substance. In the morning, check your local weather broadcast to see what the pollen count will be. If the count will be high, try to stay indoors especially if it will also be windy.
Exercise
Physical exercise can also induce an asthma attack. You should be careful when running, cycling, walking, or swimming. Always have your medication handy when you are doing any of those activities. Although, a little exercise to can be quite beneficial to your condition, you should not overdo it. Consult your doctor before starting any type of exercise program.
Infections
Respiratory infections such as colds and the flu can lead to an asthma episode. To be on the safe side, you should always get a flu vaccine during the flu season. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids so that you are well-hydrated.
Emotions
Anxiety, anger, and stress can also be harmful to an asthmatic. Try to keep your cool and stay as calm as possible so that you don't trigger an asthma attack. Keep in mind that laughing or crying too hard can also be a problem. This can lead to rapid breathing and hyperventilation that will only worsen the attack.
