First I want to share some history that can add to the pleasures I will explain for you to enjoy. Oswald West is the man who initiated the Oregon coastal access to be designated for public use. With that knowledge, you now have learned why so many native Oregonians and visitors alike revere this gentleman as someone special. The attention Oswald West gave to the Oregon coast delivers many hours of unsurpassed usage of land for public trails, sightseeing spots, picnic areas and what ever else you can imagine for personal, outdoor pleasure.

When you arrive in Oswald West State Park, you now have 2,448 acres as your playground. Nothing will be interfering with nature which you are fully aware very quickly, when you park your vehicle. The campground is no longer able to accept campers after the storm of 2008. A giant Sitka Spruce tree fell creating an investigation for the cause of that to occur. At that time it was determined others might be a safety danger so campers are not permitted. I would like to tell you during the time the camping was available that planned and welcomed wheelbarrows, provided by the park service, carried your camping gear to your selected campsite. There were only 30 sites nestled in among tall Sitka Spruce that are dated hundreds of years old.
