Boston and sailing go hand in hand. With the magnificent Boston Harbor seeming to call out to one and all to come and enjoy time on the water, more and more Bostonians are taking to sailing, like ducks to water. Of course, taking sailing lessons is required for your own safety and for the safety of the other boaters. With the right instructor, one who you have the utmost confidence in, one that you feel comfortable with, learning to sail is not that difficult a task. Just think how great it would be to be able to go out on the water when you want too, for as long as you want too. Of course, once your family and friends get wind of what you are up to, there will be no lack of company, invited or otherwise. Take a look at a few of the sailing schools and evaluate their sailing lessons. Find the one place with the lessons and instructor that is perfect for you.

The Boston Harbor Sailing Club has been in business since 1974. They have sailing lessons for beginners up to those who want to qualify to race. The best lessons for the beginner are the day sailing lessons. You get the basics of sailing, on the water experience on different types of boats and a thirty day student's membership in the club. Once you have complete the day sailing lessons, you can move up take the sailing lessons in the Cruising Course and add on 17 hours of Coastal Navigation and Night Sailing lessons. If you want to go even further, you can take lessons that will lead to certification for bigger boats. They are located at the Private Marina at Rowes Wharf.

The Courageous Sailing Center has both adult and youth sailing lessons. The adult Learn to Sail lessons teach you everything you need to know to sail a 19 footer around Boston Harbor. Take the Advanced Lessons Package to improve your skills and they also have private sailing lessons available. The Youth Sailing Lessons are for ages 8 to 18 and are free. They are located at Charlestown Navy Yard
