Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common reproductive disorder in women of child bearing age. Are there ways to manage it without over-the-counter drugs? You bet! Here is the program that I designed and used to manage my PCOS.

Exercise: Women living with PCOS are often intimately familiar with the weight gain that ensues. To combat this, an exercise plan consisting of both aerobic and anaerobic activities should be implemented. Personally, the pain I experienced daily prevented me from enjoying simple activities like jogging, running, and kickboxing. I countered this annoyance by becoming an avid walker. Anaerobic exercises, specifically weightlifting, were and still are an integral part of my exercise regimen.

Diet: Shedding the excess pounds associated with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome won't be effectively achieved by exercise alone. We must be mindful of what we put in our bodies. This is especially important for those women with PCOS who are trying to conceive. Consult your healthcare provider for diet suggestions.

Herbal remedies: Herbs known to affect hormone levels may help with unpleasant symptoms such as hot flashes, excess hair growth, and skin breakouts. Some herbs that may be beneficial in managing PCOS are Dong Quai, red clover, wild yam, and fenugreek. Natural progesterone cream, such as Sarati International, may also help relieve PCOS symptoms.

I hate having this nasty syndrome. I never asked for it. It brings your social life to a complete stop. I can't even join clubs or anything fun at school because of this. I have a son but am wanting another child, but know in my heart that this unfortunatly will most likely not happen. I guess I should be thankful for the child i do have and just accept the fact that i'll never get the joy of being pregnant ever again.
