If you look, you can find many pointers about moving,  Mostly, they will tell you how to select a mover, or moving company, or some other overly expensive alternative.  Myself and my wife recently moved from Florida to Oregon, and did it for less than 1,000.00, including driving ourselves across the country.  We would much rather spend our money on a good vacation or the like than give it over to a moving company.  No company I researched was coming in under well, thousands.  I even called about renting one of those "Pods", another grand waste of money.  If you are bent on not doing yourself, go ahead.  If not, I will tell you what we did, and maybe you can find some ideas you can use.

First, get rid of what you don't really want or need.  A garage sale before you go can help, and you can find one on the other end that can replace what you sold.  If you reduce what you are moving, all the better.  Goodwill or the Salvation Army would be more than happy to take things you don't need off your hands.  Follow this rule:  If you haven't used it (or maybe even seen it) for months, and it's not an antique or heirloom, then you probably don't need it.  Get rid of said item.

I like this it sounds great would have never thought of it! Moving on the cheap and on the fly is my motto.... no time or money to waste. I've purchased all my moving supplies from www.UsedCardboardBoxes.com They have the cheapest moving boxes out there that come in kits with packing supplies. They ship for FREE too! I've used them about 3 times already never a prob!

I like the trailer idea. One question though...I have a 1991 Ford Tempo and am not sure how much strain I can put on it...and advice?

as an update...I recently sold the trailer for 50.00 more than I paid for it, so there was no cost at all!

I would have never thought of buying a moving trailer. I just added a referral back to your article in one I wrote entitled: "Moving: Renting a Truck" it should be live soon.

Ah! Good points! Buying the trailer is pretty clever. Even a large covered trailer would be cheaper than paying a moving company...
