Well, what you just purchased is a chance to present your business to the community. There definitely is no guarantee that you'll be the one they choose, and honestly, some people don't even look in the yellow pages when they need a plumber anymore. But still, it is a chance - just like any other ad you may see such as the posters on the streets, the commercials on television. No matter what the sales man says to you, there is no guarantee, and truth is, you can't be sure that anyone will open the yellow pages to begin with.
After you purchase a spot on the Yellow Pages, you have to unlock the potential of having your customers phone you. Don't expect the sales rep or anyone working for the Yellow Pages to lose any sleep on whether or not your business will boom.
Here are a couple of pointers you may consider adding onto any future Yellow Pages ad. No guarantees, but it may help you get more potential customers, and calls.
First, create a powerful, attractive headline that will lock the interest of anyone who is looking at your ad. Keep in mind, there are many others who have an ad presenting the same thing you are - make yourself different, and more unique.
Speak to your customers by using the word "you" not "we". As well, give them one significant line of what you can offer them. Give them a reason to call with your service. Focus down on one thing - one important thing.
Outline the phone number. Don't make it extremely small, and hard to find. Also, include a strong call-to-action by the phone number. Give them a strong reason to call, and tell them to call you.
Also, use one unique, dominating graphic which will represent your business, and catch the eye of others. Too many images can easily make the reader feel like it is too cluttered, and avoid reading it whereas not even one image may make someone feel that the ad seems lifeless and boring. As well, find an interesting piece of image - not something boring, and lifeless.
