Young and old will be delighted with the southern hospitality found in Charleston, SC. A gorgeous city full of life and activities - no one will be disappointed with a visit to this wonderful place. Steeped in America's past, the history buffs will find plenty about the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, and the daily life of people from the 18th century. The buildings on the peninsula are meticulously restored. Graveyards contain the earthly remains of famous men, including some of the signers of the constitution. If you come at the right time, you may even get a glimpse of a ghost!

You may explore the city on foot, or by horse-drawn carriage. Tours abound - history tours, pirate tours, ghost tours, carriage ride tours, boat tours. A visitor to the city may have the privilege of taking a river cruise and stepping foot on Ft. Sumter - a place with much historical significance. Tours are also offered of Patriots point, where you may see the inside of a submarine and other military transport vehicles. The Hunley, one of the world's first submarines, is located near Charleston.

For those who want to bask in the sun, Folly Beach and the Isle of Palms are just short car rides away. Beautiful beaches with plenty of water and sand for all to play in.

Anyone who loves to shop will be delighted in Charleston's shopping opportunities. Many shops, quaint and modern, line the streets of Charleston's historic downtown area. The market is an open air market with many vendors. Along the streets, one can watch African American women weaving sweet grass baskets in the time-honored fashion of centuries.

Tips for wise Charleston visitors:

1) It is less expensive to stay at a hotel in North Charleston (15-20 minute commute) than in downtown Charleston

2) There are parking garages downtown, but if you don't mind walking, there is free parking along the battery (at the very tip of the peninsula

3) There are few public restrooms around - only in the parking garages

4) Check out the Visitor's center for coupons, brochures, and free maps of the city

5) Several of the nice restaurants have less expensive options for lunch
