Spring Chick Surprise is a cute and easy craft to make with your children. It is great for displaying on your table at Easter Dinner or in a child's classroom or even at Sunday School.

The project is relatively simple and I would recommend children 3 and up can do this. Some parts I would recommend adult supervision on but otherwise it is a fun project to watch your children do.

You will need the following for this project:

A cardboard egg carton, 12 or 18 count would be best
Easter grass
Colorful plastic Easter eggs (the shiny ones show off nicely, but any will do)
Two yellow pom poms for each chick (For an 18 count carton I would recommend 6 pom poms)
Orange craft foam (triangles for beaks)
Tiny black pom poms for eyes (2 for each chick)
Two craft foam wings for each chick
White craft glue or crazy glue

The first thing you will want to do is place a layer of Easter grass across the empty egg cups of the egg carton. Use just enough that the grass will stick up on the sides of the eggs and chicks. Then you will want to decide how many chicks you want hatched, this is where the pom poms will come in.

You will also want to fill the remaining plastic eggs with candy, stickers, coins, or whatever you want to put in the eggs. Then place the filled eggs in the egg carton.

You will at this point want to decide where you want the chicks to go in the carton and use half a plastic egg for the bottom of the chick. The chicks will have the appearance of just hatching. Inside the open egg that will hold the chicks you will glue a yellow pom pom inside each open egg. Then glue the second yellow pom pom on top of first pom pom.

Next you will want to glue on the eyes, beak and wings. Then place the hatched chicks into the egg carton and now you will have this great finished Spring Chick Surprise!

Here are a few tips I would recommend:

The plastic eggs will be very light if left empty, or if only stickers or other light objects such as tattoo's are used. If you prefer not to use candy try adding some loose change to the eggs to give them a bit of weight and keep them in the egg cups until they are ready to fly the coop.
