All You Need to Know About This Blow Em Up, Popcorn Action Flick.

This is a short primer for the summer popcorn flick G. I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. It has its big summer wide release on July 7th. The action packed trailer can be found at http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/gijoeriseofcobra/

The Plot: The movie is set ten years in the future and will serve as an origin story for the popular series of action figures and comics. The main characters will be members of a special operative military organization that has set out to stop the plans of the evil organization Cobra who is using evil nanobots to try to take over the world.

Star Power: There are a lot of familiar faces in this movie. Rising action star Channing Tatum who was in the movie Fighting earlier this year plays the main hero Duke. Martial arts talent Ray Park will play fan favorite Snakeyes and Marlon Wayans will play fellow partner Ripcord. The Cobra crew will have two familiar names playing famous villains. Jospeh Gordan-Levitt will don a mask to play Cobra Commander and Sienna Miller will play Baroness.

Behind the Screen: The movie is directed by Stephen Sommers who is no stranger to summer popcorn flicks. He directed and wrote both The Mummy and Van Helsing so it he should be up to the task of directing this effects heavy film. The writer Stuart Beattie is also no stranger to working out action filled plots, he wrote Pirates of Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

What to expect: Above all else expect to see a whole lot of explosions. I think I counted a dozen in the trailer alone. This movie seems to be fairly basic. You have your good guys is powered up suits fighting the bad guys that have lots of missiles and green nanobots that eat metal. Also, because ninjas are a crowd pleaser I imagine we will get a few katana sword fights between Snake Eyes and his rival. Somewhere in all of that they will squeeze in a plot and maybe a love interest or two for the heroes.
