West Houston Bike Trails

2
I've been living out in the West Houston area since October 2005. We found this wonderful refuge looking for the best public schools in the area when we relocated, but we certainly never expected to find such a wonderful and beautiful place to live in as well.

In Katy, Texas there are several master planned communities that value outdoor recreation. Everywhere you look you will see trails, community parks and pools. One can ride a bike pretty much to and from everywhere in Katy, even to the supermarket, the movie theaters and to Katy Mills Outlet Mall. But it does depend on how old and fit you are. Not many can tackle all of Katy on bike, even on the paved trails.

Still, one can see bikers of all ages in Katy from children, with training wheels on their bikes, to senior citizens. My children, like most, ride their bikes to school almost all year and during summer they can be seen riding along the paved paths to the pools, parks and into the trails in the wooded reserved areas or along the Bayous.

One of the best bike trails is located behind the Cinco Ranch Water Park on Cinco Ranch Boulevard. This area of woods with the intertwining bayou, take the biker all the way to Bush Park though few get all the way there, usually bikers reach Grand Parkway and head back. On the bayou, one can see an occasional alligator lazily swimming or soaking up the sun and if you pay close attention water snakes as well. And all of it is literally, right in your back yard.

There is also the lake area on Cinco Ranch Boulevard and Spring Green Boulevard. The beautifully landscaped artificial lakes have small waterfalls and a paved trail that goes up and down all around the lakes. Fishing is allowed there are ducks and bunnies running around the lakes so riding with the children is always fun. There are benches scattered about for sitting and enjoying the scenery. Sitting there at sunset and watching the sky turn all sorts of orange and blue before heading back home is the perfect end to any day.
