We all know people who seem to eat and drink whatever they want and never gain an ounce, and they don't try to cut calories from their diet. Unfortunately, most people can't mindlessly eat and drink without gaining weight. Most of us must cut calories by saying no to seconds, pass on desserts, and diet on a regular basis in order to avoid gaining unwanted pounds. Otherwise, the weight will slowly appear, and before long, clothing will begin fitting a little too snug for comfort. No one enjoys going on a diet, but the vast majority of people have to cut certain foods and beverages from their diet in order to lose weight and stay in shape.

It really isn't necessary to suffer in order to cut calories from the diet to avoid weight gain. For every fattening condiment and every calorie-packed treat, you can find low-calorie satisfying diet alternatives. Losing weight and keeping it off for good requires lifestyle changes, and a temporary low-cal diet isn't the complete answer. Going on a diet suggests a temporary change, but if you want to lose weight and keep it off for good, you'll have to find ways to regularly cut calories and permanently change your diet. It is possible to cut out fat, sugar, and calories without feeling deprived.

Hold the Mayo

Mayonnaise adds a significant amount of fat to sandwiches and salads, and if you want to cut calories from your diet, consider substituting mayonnaise for calorie-free mustard. Alternately you can mix mustard with light or low-calorie mayonnaise for a creamy, flavorful, reduced calorie condiment. Foods will taste great, and you'll cut calories from your diet without sacrificing flavor.

Better Than Butter or Margarine

Nothing matches the taste of a buttered slice of toast, but it's common knowledge that butter and margarine are loaded with artery-clogging fat and calories. If you enjoy a thick sliced of hot buttered toast but want to cut fat from your diet, consider spreading sugar-free jam or jelly on your toast instead of butter or margarine. You'll be surprised by how tasty natural fruit jam or jelly truly is, and in time, you really won't miss the butter or margarine.
