I always loved the movie musicals of the classic movie era. Of course, the biggest reason to love a musical is for the songs. One of the typical types of song in a musical is a love song. This is a list of some of my favorite movie musical loves songs. Most of these songs are a little quirky and fun.

"People Will Say We're in Love" from Oklahoma: I don't really care for the musical itself, but this is one of my favorite songs. Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae sound beautiful together. Their characters advise each other on how to stop the rumors that they're falling in love. Laurey (Jones) tells Curley (MacRae) not to throw bouquets at her or laugh at her jokes. He responds by admonishing her not to stand in the rain with him or dance all night with him. All the things they tell each other not to do are clearly things that prove they are in love.

"On the Street Where You Live" from My Fair Lady: Jeremy Brett's voice was dubbed for this song, although he could sing. But, that's a minor quibble for me. As Freddie Eynsford-Hill, he's completely giddy to be just on the same street as Eliza Doolittle. He sings that it's the same street he's been down before, only now "enchantment" comes out of every door, and he doesn't care who sees him in that state. I've always preferred him to Henry Higgins.

"You're Awful" from On the Town: Can a song made up of insults be a love song? It can with lines like "You're awful. Awful good to look at" and "You're nothing. Nothing if not lovely." Chip (Frank Sinatra) sings this to Hildy (Betty Garrett) the cab driver who shows him New York. Hildy tells him that he's only so-so. "So-so kind of charming." They finish by proclaiming that the other one is awful.

I guess I haven't watched many musicals, I seem to draw a blank when trying to think of a musical--The Sound of Music is the only one I can think of. Now I have something to look for on netflix
