The Little Nature Museum in Contoocook, New Hampshire
A great hands-on museum in Contoocook, New Hampshire for children is The Little Nature Museum. It is a hands-on museum that lets you check out old fossils, rocks, minerals, sea life, insects, Indian artifacts, birds, mammals, and plants. There are even some trails to hike along and learn about different nature things which are really cool.
The Little Nature Museum is located inside a two hundred year old historical barn in Gould Hill Orchards in Contoocook, New Hampshire on Gould Hill Road. All children must be with an adult at all times. There are certain times the museum is open for certain age groups and you can view them at http://www.littlenaturemuseum.org/Calendar.html.
The fee to get into The Little Nature Museum is between seven and ten dollars for children and I believe parents are free which is awesome.
Some of the exhibits you will see inside The Little Nature Museum are How Fossils Are Formed, Trilobites, Dinosaurs, What Do Owls Have for Lunch, and Animals Prepare for Winter, Beavers and the list goes on and on. Must of these exhibits are hands on and provide activities for the children to participate in so they can learn things about the earth they live on and nature.
Some of the different types of collections you will see while visiting The Little Nature Museum are Fossils, Rocks and Minerals, Sands from around the World, Shells and Sea Life, Galls, Indian Artifacts, Mounted Mammals, Insects and Florescent Minerals. Again some of the collections are hands on as well to help your child learn about nature.
The different fun activities they have inside The Little Nature Museum are Rock Puzzles, Rock and Mineral Quizzes, Make a Sand Collection, Make a Fossil or Animal Track Rubbing, Look through the Compound Eyes of an Insect, and Mammal Fur Coats. These activities really helps the children learn about how things were made and created in nature and really helps them get to see all the different nature things we have all over our world.
