on the same wavelength as Pixar - though few other American animated movies are - but Ice Age has been a successful franchise, nonetheless. The reviews for Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs aren't as generous this time, so Ice Age 3 will have to get by on goodwill, and 3D.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs actually brings the prehistoric heroes into a world of dinosaurs, despite all historical evidence to the contrary. Manny and Ellie the mammoths, Sid the sloth, Diego the tiger - and of course, the unlucky Scrat - plunge into a new secret world where dinosaurs and other wild creatures still exist.
FOX releases Ice Age 3 as the big 4'th of July film of the summer - at least the big film released on the 4'th of July. Ice Age 3 still has an uphill battle against the record-setting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, however. But since Transformers already made its 200 million, and since Ice Age is much more kid friendly, Ice Age 3 may have a good shot.
What's more, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is being released in 3D, which has been a winning format for animated films this year. 3D helped Monsters vs Aliens make a lot this spring, and it helped Up become Pixar's biggest hit in a while. But 3D will have to do a lot to power Ice Age 3 to the top, according to reviews.
