Wake County School Board
On Monday, July 6, 2009 candidates began filing to run for four seats on the Wake County Board of Education. The seats that are up for election are for districts one, two, seven and nine. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2009.
Elected Officials
Lori Millberg is the current elected official from District One which consists of Northeast Wake County including the communities of Wendell, Zebulon, Wake Forest, and Rolesville. Meanwhile, Horace Tart is the current elected official from District Two and also Vice Chair of the Board. District Two encompasses Southeast Wake County which consists of the towns of Fuquay-Varina and Garner. District Seven is served by Patti Head and contains the West Raleigh and Morrisville area. Additionally, Eleanor Goettee serves District Nine, which is also known as Western Wake including parts of Cary.
The school board election is expected to heat up as more because of one main issue - school reassignment. The reassignments have led to the emergence of independent groups such as Wake CARES and Wake Schools Community Alliance (WSCA). Currently WSCA has endorsed two candidates, Chris Malone for District One and Deborah Prickett for District Seven.
