People fall for scams everyday, some are well known as scams or fraudulent activities but for many they are a shocking discovery. There are far too many to list here in this article but I can help you open your eyes to various scams that people keep falling for in hopes that you will avoid the pitfall.

In any situation the being cautious is key. If something sounds odd to you then run it by a friend or family member before you do the deed. It is okay to question something that doesn't seem quite right; in fact it is a natural reaction and defense mechanism that helps us avoid potential dangers.

Popular Scams: In Case You Didn't Know

Phone calls still ranks as one of the oldest scams in the book. For instance we all know about the 900 numbers right? Wrong. Still people get duped by this one. Or, how about the 800 number that redirects you to a 900 to learn 'important information' about a variety of subjects. The recording usually says something to the effect of: "... in order to claim your free vacation you need to access this extension using your touchtone phone." The scam is when you willingly push the extension into your keypad you are transported to a 900 number and are now paying for each and every minute you stay on the line.

Second Mortgages are still very popular. In these situations it is important to run the proposal by your banker or go to a lawyer and ask advice. It is so important to read the fine print in these cases. Usually, the person getting this type of loan will lose their home within a year or two and can not get out of it.

Takeaways
  • People fall for scams everyday.
  • Lottery scams are rampant in today's society.
  • It is so very important to be extra careful when something sounds 'too good' to be true.

What I hate are when these idiots scam the elderly out of their money, by either getting their hopes up for money they need, or scaring them into giving money they need away.

I won't even discuss the one my husband fell for. It cost us $5,000 to learn the lesson.
